/EXPOSITION ET EXPERIENCE DE MELIK OHANIAN A L'ECOLE DES BEAUX ARTS DE MONTPELLIER/

Dans le langage HTML {display:none;} est un terme employé comme caractéristique de mise en forme CSS d'une balise qui en décide l'affichage. {display:none;} veut donc dire que l'élément n'est pas affiché. Métaphoriquement, ce titre évoque que le travail de l'artiste n'aura pas de forme définie dans l'espace d'exposition.
Melik Ohanian a été étudiant à l'Ecole des beaux-arts de Montpellier entre 1988 et 1990 puis à Lyon de 1990 à 1993. Depuis, il a parcouru le monde pour réaliser son travail ou pour l'exposer. Répondant à l'invitation de Yann Mazéas (responsable des expositions à l'Ecole de Montpellier), Melik Ohanian décide d'investir l'espace d'exposition de l'Ecole des Beaux Arts de Montpellier en le transformant en son atelier temporaire. En utilisant de nouveau l'école des Beaux Arts comme un outil, il transforme l'espace d'exposition en un espace de production, de réflexion et de vie.
L'espace d'exposition sera ouvert quotidiennement aux étudiants et au public pendant 23 jours. L'artiste sera présent en permanence dans cet espace où il montrera ses différentes réalisations sous des formes crées pour l'occasion.
Durant la journée, il invite les étudiants et le public à parcourir avec lui l’ensemble de ses archives (films, photos, bandes sonores, textes) sur presque 20 années de travail, afin de les réorganiser lors d’un travail collectif. Cette expérience de réagencement et de réinterprétation des documents qui témoignent d’un parcours artistique donnera lieu à une publication singulière reflétant le travail de l’artiste.
Durant ces 23 journées de travail dans l’espace d’exposition, plusieurs intervenants extérieurs seront invités pour observer et commenter l’expérience et le travail de l’artiste.
Par cette proposition, Melik Ohanian déjoue la notion littérale d'exposition. Dans son propos, faire oeuvre ne se limite pas à la présence formelle dans un espace déclaré zone d'exposition, mais plutôt dans l'approche et le parcours du monde, et de l'interaction d'une pensée artistique face au réel.

In html coding, {display:none;} is a term of the CSS layout which defines the read out of a tag.
Inserting the term {display:none;} means that an element is not posted up or shown.
Metaphorically, this title implies that the work of the artist will not have any defined form in the exhibition space.
Melik Ohanian studied at l’Ecole des Beaux-Arts de Montpellier between 1988 and 1990 and in Lyon from 1990 to 1993. Since then he has been working and exhibiting all over the world. For the exhibition at l’Ecole des Beaux-Arts de Montpellier where Yann Mazéas (head currator) invited him, Melik Ohanian has chosen to occupy the exhibition space as his temporary workshop. As in the past, he uses the school as a tool, turning the exhibition space into a place of production and reflection.
The space will be open to the public for 23 days. The artist will occupy the space permanently. In this time Melik Ohanian will present multiple works in ways that are specific to this exhibition.
During the day, he invites the students and the public to go through his archive of films, photos, soundtracks, and writtings of the past 20 years in order to re-organize them in a collaborative way.
This experience of re-displaying and re-interpreting the documents that testify Melik Ohanian’s art practice will result in a publication that shows a retrospective of his work.
During these 23 days, invited lecturers will host discussions and comment on the artist’s practice to date. Given that, Melik Ohanian eludes to the litteral concept of an exhibition. To him, (making) art is not only bounded to its formal presence in the exhibition space but also in the approach and the journey of/around the world, and the interplay between an artistic thought and the real.
